## Article

A change to the length of time that people need to self-isolate for is coming into effect on **Tuesday 18th January 2022**. This change relates to England only (at the time of writing) and applies to everyone regardless of vaccination status.

- People who have tested positive for Covid (with a LFD or PCR test) will only need to isolate for “5 full days” if they test negative (on an LFD test) on two consecutive days (from the fifth day onwards) **and** no longer have a fever **[Self-isolation for those with COVID-19 can end after 5 full days following 2 negative LFD tests – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)](https://www.gov.uk/government/news/self-isolation-for-those-with-covid-19-can-end-after-five-full-days-following-two-negative-lfd-tests)**.
- This means if you have a negative LFD test on the morning of Day 5 **and** on the morning of Day 6, you can **return to work on Day 6**.
- If you are still positive on Day 5 you must stay in self-isolation, either until you have negative tests on two consecutive days or until your full 10 day isolation period is up, whichever comes first.

This change does not currently apply to people who are required to isolate as a close contact of someone else with a positive Covid test, although the Government is reviewing this now.
