What is the standard for?
ISO 45001 has been produced to provide organisations with a framework that is designed to help them to identify health and safety risks and apply appropriate control measures.
In summary, it helps organisations to follow a structured approach to reducing risks and maintaining legal compliance. This new standard will help the business to follow a similar approach to health and safety management as the 2015 versions of ISO 14001 (environment) and ISO 9001 (quality) do for their respective topics.
If your health and safety systems are certified to the OHSAS 18001 standard, the transition to the new one should be simple with the help of Safety Management. This is because much of the content of ISO 45001 is based on the OHSAS standard.
Where the is no health and safety system in place our expert consultants can take your business to the point of certification – it will be cost-effective, streamlined and stress free. It’s not mandatory for you to implement a formal management system. However, if you work for responsible businesses and organisations this is a good baseline to achieving best practice and excellence in Occupational Health and Safety management.
For any advice, or support, with the transition between OHSAS 18001 and the new ISO 45001:2018 standard please contact Safety Management to discuss your requirements with our skilled and competent Health and Safety Consultants.
